The American Solar Energy Institute (ASEI)
was created for the advancement of education and the proliferation of sustainable
energy in the United States.
The
American Solar Energy Institute is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 that is dedicated to providing education, training,
and workforce development in the high-demand technology of renewable energy. The American
Solar Energy Institute provides hands-on training targeted at two key constituencies: retraining
young and displaced workers for the alternative energy technologies of tomorrow, and providing workforce development for members
of traditionaly underserved communities.
ASEI is a non-profit educational corporation
that is funded through a combination of tuition, contributions, and grants. ASEI devotes 100%of its resources to train its
students in Green Energy and sustainability.
Governor
Bill Richardson issued a Green Jobs Cabinet Report which highlights New Mexico’s unique position to take advantage of
both solar resources (in the U.S. second only to Arizona) and the New Mexico workforce. ASEI provides concrete support for
the all of the governor’s goals:
1. Be
the Leader in Renewable Energy Export
2. Be the Leader in Renewable Energy Export
3. lead The Nation in Green
Grid Innovation
4. Be
a Center of Excellence for Green Building and Energy Efficiency
5. Have a Highly Skilled and Ready-To-Work Workforce
Mission statement:
The
American Solar Energy Institute is devoted to the exploration and exchange of alternative energy knowledge to advance the
proliferation of a sustainable energy culture in the Desert Southwest. Our keystone mission is to promote renewable/sustainable
energy production efficient distribution and sensible utilization in traditionally underserved communities throughout the
Southwest United States. To accomplish this mission, we focus on training and certifying our fellow New Mexicans in the design,
installation, integration and maintenance of renewable power generation technologies for residential and commercial applications.
Classes and Facilities:
American Solar Energy Institute classes are held in a dedicated facility
at 504 Yale Ave, just south of the UNM main campus. This unique location provides a modern classroom setting, with hands-on
roof-installation training just steps away in the ASEI Solar Yard.
ASEI
has rescheduled the first five-day intensive PV 101 class and a new date will be posted soon. Future ASEI classes will include a full array of Green Energy offerings, including solar thermal, designing
green buildings, energy efficiency, and bio-fuels.
